Overview
Differential signals are used especially at high clock rates, where they suppress common mode interference and keep wideband signals intact. The R&S® RT-ZD series of active differential probes covers 1 GHz to 4.5 GHz and pairs high input impedance with high common mode rejection (CMRR) and very low added noise, which is what fast differential signals ask for. Every model integrates the R&S® ProbeMeter high-precision DC voltmeter and a micro button that drives the oscilloscope from the probe head, and the Rohde & Schwarz probe interface identifies and configures the probe as soon as it is plugged in.
Key features
- Bandwidths from 1 GHz to 4.5 GHz across four models
- High input impedance (1 MΩ) reduces loading on the circuit under test
- Input capacitance below 1 pF for a faithful measurement of high-frequency signals
- Very low added noise, so small differential signals are captured accurately
- High common mode rejection ratio (CMRR) rejects common mode interference
- Integrated R&S® ProbeMeter high-precision DC voltmeter measures the DC bias without swapping instruments
- Micro button on the probe head controls oscilloscope functions for convenience
- Rohde & Schwarz probe interface identifies the probe and configures the oscilloscope automatically
- The RT-ZD10 ships with the R&S® RT-ZA15 external attenuator (10:1, 2.0 GHz) to widen the measurable voltage range
Typical applications
- Differential signal measurement on high-speed digital buses (USB, PCIe, SATA, HDMI, DisplayPort)
- Power integrity and differential power rail noise analysis
- Characterising differential pairs in RF and microwave circuits
- Debugging high-speed serial interfaces on embedded systems and SoCs
- High-voltage differential measurement on EV inverters and motor drives
- Wideband differential signal verification in aerospace and defence
