Product overview
The R&S®FSWP is a high-sensitivity phase noise analyzer that combines very low noise internal sources with cross-correlation, so the phase and amplitude noise of a stable source such as a radar oscillator is measured in seconds. Spectrum analysis, vector signal analysis and VCO characterization sit on the same platform, and external mixers take the frequency range up to 325 GHz — for demanding aerospace, defense, communications and radar work.
Key features
- Cross-correlation: highly sensitive, simultaneous amplitude and phase noise measurement on CW and pulsed signals
- Fastest measurement speed in its class: hardware-accelerated signal processing gives real-time phase noise results with the fewest cross-correlations
- Unrivaled sensitivity: the internal low noise sources outperform most commercial signal generators on the market
- Pulsed signal analysis: automatic pulse parameter detection, supporting phase noise measurements on radar sources
- Automated VCO characterization: frequency, power, tuning slope and phase noise against tuning voltage
- Residual phase noise measurement: measure the noise a component adds, driven by an internal or external source, under realistic operating conditions
- Allan variance: frequency stability figures calculated directly from the phase noise data
- One instrument, many functions: spectrum analysis, vector signal analysis and transient measurements in the same box
- Frequency extension to 325 GHz: millimeterwave measurements with the FS-Z family of external mixers
Typical applications
- Verification of radar system signal sources
- Testing DROs (dielectric resonator oscillators) and OCXOs (oven-controlled crystal oscillators)
- VCO characterization during component development
- Characterizing pulsed signal sources for military and aerospace use
- Additive (residual) phase noise measurements on components
- PLL transient response analysis
