Product overview
The R&S®FPC is the benchtop spectrum analyzer Rohde & Schwarz built for the entry class. Engineered in Germany, it stands out for RF performance, for the largest and highest-resolution display in its class, and for doing several jobs at once — spectrum analysis, tracking generator and one-port vector network analysis. A keycode-activated frequency upgrade path (1 GHz to 2 GHz to 3 GHz) protects the investment, and remote control over USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi suits RF development, EMI debugging, teaching laboratories and wireless communications test alike.
Key features
- Largest high-resolution display in its class: a 10.1" WXGA touchscreen at 1366 × 768 pixels shows signal detail other entry-class analyzers cannot.
- Unrivaled entry-class RF performance: phase noise better than –92 dBc/Hz (500 MHz, 30 kHz offset) and DANL down to –165 dBm/Hz with the FPC-B22 preamplifier, ahead of competitors at the same price.
- Several instruments in one (FPC1500): spectrum analyzer, tracking generator and one-port vector network analyzer in a single box, with VSWR measurements, Smith chart display and distance-to-fault (DTF), replacing three instruments.
- Independent CW signal source: a built-in continuous wave generator, coupled to the center frequency or set independently, for amplifier gain measurements and mixer characterization without an external source.
- Frequency upgrade path that protects the investment: a software keycode lifts the upper frequency limit from 1 GHz to 2 GHz and then to 3 GHz with no recalibration needed.
- Modulation analysis (option FPC-K7): AM, FM, ASK and FSK analysis with presets for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and tire pressure monitoring (TPMS), including eye diagram and symbol display.
- EMI debugging mode (option FPC-K43): a receiver mode which, with a near-field probe, locates EMI sources on boards and cables — a cost-effective way to start EMC debugging.
- Flexible remote connections: USB, Ethernet (LAN) and Wi-Fi (option FPC-B200), with R&S®InstrumentView (Windows) and R&S®MobileView (iOS/Android) for full remote operation.
Typical applications
- RF circuit development and test: filter frequency response, amplifier gain, cable insertion loss and component S-parameters, covering passive and active RF circuits.
- EMC precompliance and EMI debugging: receiver mode with a near-field probe set quickly locates EMI sources on boards and cables, giving a low-cost EMC pre-test during design verification.
- Wireless measurements: modulation quality analysis for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), tire pressure monitoring (TPMS) and similar protocols, with channel power, occupied bandwidth and adjacent channel leakage ratio.
- Antenna and transmission line characterization: the one-port VNA function of the FPC1500 measures antenna impedance (Smith chart) and finds cable faults by distance-to-fault, useful when verifying an installation on site.
- RF teaching laboratories: a direct user interface, a large display and remote monitoring make it a good teaching instrument for university and vocational RF courses, with the R&S®FPC-Z10 training kit simplifying course design.
