Overview
The R&S® RT-ZM modular probe system answers today's high-speed probing challenges with a technically precise solution that is still straightforward to use. Every probing arrangement combines high bandwidth and a wide dynamic range while keeping capacitive loading low. The system pairs tip modules for a range of measurement tasks and conditions (the RT-ZMA family) with amplifier modules from 1.5 GHz to 16 GHz. A dedicated ASIC supports single-ended, differential and common mode measurement and switches between them without reconnecting or re-soldering, offers ±16 V of DC offset compensation, and includes a high-precision voltmeter (R&S® ProbeMeter) that measures DC voltage to 0.05 % accuracy independently of the oscilloscope.
Key features
- Flexible and configurable connectivity: the modular design accepts solder-in, quick-connect, SMA and flexible tip modules, so it suits almost any measurement setup and board layout.
- Multimode measurement: a dedicated high-speed ASIC switches between single-ended (P/N), differential (DM) and common mode (CM) measurement on the fly, with no reconnecting and no re-soldering of the tip.
- ±16 V DC offset compensation: applied at the tip, upstream of the differential ASIC, it cancels the DC component of the signal, opening a measurement window beyond the amplifier's dynamic range and showing the part of the signal you care about at full resolution.
- Integrated high-precision voltmeter (R&S® ProbeMeter): runs independently of the oscilloscope, measuring the DC component continuously to 0.05 % accuracy in parallel with waveform acquisition, digitised in real time by a dedicated ADC inside the amplifier module.
- Micro button control: the micro button on the amplifier module can be assigned to run/stop, auto set, save waveform, set trigger level, generate an automated test report or switch measurement mode, so the oscilloscope can be driven without looking away from the probe.
- Low capacitive loading: every tip module presents a low capacitive load, reducing the effect on the circuit under test and keeping high-speed measurements honest.
- The RT-ZMA1 hard storage case carries up to six RT-ZMA tip cables, for transport and use on site.
Typical applications
- Differential probing of high-speed serial interfaces (PCIe, USB, DDR, SerDes)
- Multi-channel power integrity measurement
- Common mode noise analysis on differential signals
- Signal integrity measurement on high-speed digital circuits
- Circuit characterisation over temperature (with the RT-ZMA11 / RT-ZMA50)
- High-bandwidth single-ended measurement on RF and microwave circuits (with the RT-ZMA40 SMA module)
- High-accuracy DC offset measurement in aerospace, defence and telecommunications systems
