Overview
The R&S®NGL200 series is a two-quadrant linear DC power supply that works both as a source and as a sink, absorbing current flowing back from the load. That makes it a natural fit for simulating batteries and for charge/discharge testing. Its load recovery time of less than 30 µs reproduces the abrupt current swings of a mobile device or IoT module switching between sleep and transmit mode while holding the output voltage steady. With 6½ digit measurement of voltage, current and power plus data logging, the instrument is a precision current analyzer as much as a supply — at home in mobile communications, IoT and battery development laboratories.
Key features
- Two-quadrant architecture switches automatically between source and sink mode, so it behaves like a real battery
- Load recovery time < 30 µs (within ±20 mV), matching the instantaneous load steps of a mobile or IoT device moving between sleep and transmit
- 6½ digit readback of voltage, current and power measures µA-level standby current and A-level inrush without changing range
- Very low ripple and noise: voltage < 500 µV RMS and < 2 mV pk-pk, current < 1 mA RMS, for sensitive analog circuits
- Linear regulation avoids the high-frequency interference a switched-mode supply couples into the DUT
- 5" colour touchscreen with a rotary knob and a graphical, intuitive interface
- Built-in high-speed data logging records voltage, current and power over long runs for later analysis
- Full protection set: OVP, OCP, OPP, OTP and a programmable electronic fuse (FuseLink)
- USB and LAN (VXI-11) remote control as standard, with optional WLAN and IEEE-488 (GPIB) modules
Typical applications
- Charge/discharge cycling and characterisation of lithium and rechargeable batteries
- Power consumption analysis of smartphones, wearables and IoT modules
- Reproducing the instantaneous current swings of sleep/transmit mode changes
- Recreating low-battery, voltage-droop and transient conditions for battery-powered products
- Supplying analog, RF and sensor circuits that are sensitive to supply noise
- Precision DC supply testing in development, manufacturing and quality assurance
