Product overview
The R&S® ZNLE lets you innovate affordably: a compact, standalone two-port vector network analyzer for basic VNA work, aimed at professional engineers and at teaching institutions. It covers 100 kHz with the low frequency option up to 20 GHz and measures the full two-port S-parameter set (S11, S21, S12, S22) of passive components. Windows 10 and a solid state drive are built in, so it runs without an external PC or monitor, and the 10.1" multitouch screen keeps operation direct. It brings quality VNA measurements at a price that makes the entry class worth entering.
Key features
- Standalone, with nothing else to connect: Windows 10 and a solid state drive are built in, so everything the measurement needs sits in one housing — no external PC, no external monitor.
- Low trace noise for stable, dependable results: typically 0.001 dB in a 10 kHz measurement bandwidth, giving accurate, repeatable readings, while the wide measurement bandwidth keeps measurements fast without losing trace stability.
- Direct touch interface: a 10.1" capacitive multitouch screen with a clean layout, plus a context-sensitive help menu that answers questions as they arise and lowers the learning curve.
- Guided calibration wizard: built-in setup and calibration wizards walk the user through the procedure step by step, which reduces mistakes and improves repeatability. Manual calibration kits (R&S® ZN-Z1xx) and calibration units (R&S® ZN-ZE1xx) are both supported, the latter calibrating in a single step.
- Full two-port S-parameters: bidirectional measurement of all four S-parameters (S11, S21, S12, S22) of a passive device, which covers filters, antennas, cables and RF passives generally.
- Optional de-embedding and fixture compensation: remove the contribution of a test fixture and get at the component's own behaviour.
- Optional time domain analysis (R&S® ZNL-K2): shows impedance discontinuities, reflection coefficient and impedance against delay or length, with step and impulse response, lowpass and bandpass frequency spacing and time gated S-parameters.
- Optional distance-to-fault measurements (R&S® ZNL-K3): locate cable faults and connector defects precisely, for cable acceptance and field maintenance.
Typical applications
- RF filter characterization: insertion loss, return loss, frequency response and group delay of bandpass, bandstop, lowpass and highpass filters, checked against specification.
- Antenna impedance and reflection analysis: S11 return loss, VSWR and impedance against frequency, confirming antenna match and operating band.
- Cable and connector fault finding: with the distance-to-fault option, locate impedance discontinuities, connector loss and open or short circuits — for manufacturing QC and field repair.
- S-parameter measurements on passive RF and microwave components: full two-port characterization of power dividers, couplers, attenuators and duplexers, producing component model data.
- Training and teaching laboratories: the direct touch interface and guided wizards suit university labs, vocational training centres and in-house introductory RF measurement courses.
- General-purpose RF component acceptance test: incoming inspection and outgoing quality verification of RF and microwave components in smaller companies, at a cost that still buys professional measurement.
