Product overview
The R&S®FE170ST is an external frontend for sub-terahertz work and early 6G research: it extends base instruments such as the R&S®SMW200A, R&S®SMM100A and R&S®SFI100A into the D band, 110 GHz to 175 GHz. The solution is fully calibrated before it leaves the factory and fully automated in use, and it integrates seamlessly into signal generator, analyzer and oscilloscope setups, giving engineers the band coverage that next-generation mobile communications development needs.
Key features
- Fully automated factory calibration: every unit is characterized in production, and once it is connected to the base instrument over LAN the calibration data transfers automatically — no extra calibration equipment, less setup time and better measurement accuracy.
- Ease of operation, seamless integration: connect LAN, IF and REF and the base instrument turns into a D band signal generator on its own, with no multi-instrument programming and a fully automated measurement setup.
- Excellent modulated signal quality: a 5G NR signal (2 GHz bandwidth, 960 kHz SCS, QPSK modulation) reaches an EVM better than –36 dB at 144 GHz and keeps that performance over a wide dynamic range.
- Smart accessory ecosystem: the external bandpass filters (FE170-Z01 to Z17) transfer their characterization data to the base instrument automatically through an EPROM module, and offer low insertion loss and an excellent VSWR, which optimizes spurious performance.
- Compact form factor, flexible mounting: the compact design puts the frontend right next to the device under test to minimize RF cable loss. Adjustable feet and several mounting points allow flexible layouts, and the WR6.5 waveguide connector connects directly to a device or an antenna for OTA measurements.
- Wide dynamic range: maintained across the whole D band, covering everything from low-power research signals to higher-power test scenarios.
