Overview
The R&S®NGM200 series is a two-quadrant high-precision power supply built for battery simulation and dynamic load characterisation. A programmable battery model — open-circuit voltage, internal resistance and state of charge (SoC) — reproduces how a cell behaves along different discharge curves, which makes it a natural choice for verifying the power consumption of mobile, IoT and wearable products. FastLog data logging at 500 kSa/s and a load recovery time of less than 30 µs capture the instantaneous current changes of wake-up pulses and RF bursts. Two models are available, the single-channel NGM201 and the dual-channel NGM202, each channel supplying 0 V to 20 V at up to 60 W with 6½ digit readback resolution (5 µV / 10 nA).
Key features
- Two-quadrant (source / sink) architecture works as a supply or as an electronic load, with energy flowing in both directions
- Battery simulation (NGM-K106) models open-circuit voltage, internal resistance and state of charge (SoC) to mimic a real cell
- FastLog high-speed acquisition at up to 500 kSa/s (2 µs resolution) records wake-up pulses and RF bursts in full
- Fast load recovery time < 30 µs keeps the output stable through dynamic load changes
- 6½ digit readback at 5 µV voltage / 10 nA current, covering nA to A in one measurement range
- Low-noise output < 500 µV (RMS), suited to sensitive analog and RF circuits
- 5" colour touchscreen with an intuitive interface and several graphical measurement views
- Built-in arbitrary function generation (ArbWave) reproduces real-world supply voltage profiles
- Full interface set: USB, LAN (VXI-11), Wi-Fi and optional GPIB for integration into automated test systems
- Half 19", 2 HU housing, with an optional 19" rack mount kit
Typical applications
- Characterising lithium and mobile device batteries (discharge curves, internal resistance modelling)
- Measuring and optimising current consumption in IoT, wearable and mobile phone designs
- Simulating voltage dips and battery ageing (automotive electronics, 12 V ECU supply testing)
- Capturing and analysing instantaneous current pulses from RF modules
- Low-noise supply for sensitive analog, ADC/DAC and RF circuits
- Electronic load duty: absorbing current fed back from the DUT
- High-precision DC supply for development laboratories and production lines
