Product overview
The R&S®FSWX is the first signal and spectrum analyzer to combine multichannel signal analysis, cross-correlation and an I/Q preselector. Its novel internal multipath architecture uses cross-correlation to remove the analyzer's own noise, while a filter bank preselects across the full band, so what is captured and analyzed is the signal under test and nothing else. With up to 8 GHz internal analysis bandwidth and phase-coherent multichannel capture at the same or different frequencies, the FSWX brings new levels of sensitivity, dynamic range and accuracy to amplifier and mixer characterization, phased array work, electronic warfare and spectrum monitoring.
Key features
- Multichannel signal analysis: the first multichannel signal and spectrum analyzer, capturing wideband modulated signals phase-coherently at the same or different frequencies, which opens up measurement scenarios that did not exist before.
- Cross-correlation: correlating two receive paths removes the analyzer's own noise and pushes the noise floor to the physical limit, giving unmatched sensitivity, the lowest phase noise, the widest dynamic range and the best EVM performance.
- 8 GHz wideband ADC: every analog signal path carries a high-resolution, high-speed ADC, so up to 8 GHz of analysis bandwidth is available at any input frequency, with the highest sweep speed and high dynamic range.
- Filter bank with optional YIG preselector: separate internal highpass and lowpass filters cover the whole frequency range and preselect for I/Q analysis across the full band, so images cannot fold into the measurement. A YIG preselector is available where the highest dynamic range is needed.
- Highest level accuracy over the full frequency range: the multipath architecture and preselection together hold top-class accuracy everywhere in the range and keep signals at other frequencies out of the result.
- Phase-coherent multichannel capture: measure the phase relationship between several antenna ports at once, for beamforming radar, MIMO communications systems, and electronic warfare scenarios that need simultaneous capture at different frequencies.
Typical applications
- Amplifier and mixer characterization: compare the output of an amplifier or mixer against the modulated input reference signal for a complete view of the device.
- Phased array and MIMO system test: capture several channels at once and measure the phase relationship and group delay between the antenna ports of a beamforming radar or a MIMO communications system.
- Electronic warfare: capture signals at different frequencies simultaneously, supporting DRFM and radar transmitter analysis for better situational awareness and threat detection.
- Spectrum monitoring: preselected I/Q analysis prevents image folding and gives clean signal identification for regulatory and monitoring work.
- High-gain component test: cross-correlation pushes the noise floor to the physical limit, so low-power signals can be measured — useful for precise work on low noise amplifiers (LNAs) and other high-gain devices.
