Overview
The Pendulum Instruments F10AD is a general-purpose dual-channel high voltage broadband linear amplifier with a frequency response extending from DC to 1 MHz and a fixed voltage gain of ×10. Two entirely independent F10A amplifiers are integrated inside, sharing the same ground reference and power supply, so one enclosure provides two bipolar ±100 V outputs at once, each up to 185 mA, with a maximum output power of about 30 W. The input accepts any signal source up to ±10 V in amplitude at an input impedance of 1 MΩ (30 pF), and a low output impedance (<0.1 Ω) carries the signal intact into resistive and small capacitive loads. A 15 mA microfuse inside the unit protects the circuit automatically when the input voltage exceeds 300% of its rating, preventing damage from an accidental short circuit or overload. The F10AD is widely used in research institutes, R&D laboratories and component manufacturing, typically for driving and characterising piezo actuators, MEMS, OLED and liquid crystal panels.
Key features
- Dual independent outputs — Two entirely independent F10A amplifier circuits inside share ground and power supply, driving two different loads at once — dual-channel measurement or differential drive experiments without extra equipment.
- High voltage broadband output — Output voltage reaches ±100 V with a bandwidth covering DC to 1 MHz and a slew rate of 400 V/µs, reproducing fast transients faithfully and meeting the demanding drive requirements of piezo actuators and MEMS devices.
- Very low output impedance — An output impedance below 0.1 Ω keeps the voltage steady and distortion very low when driving resistive loads, suiting precision measurement where load matching matters.
- Layered overload protection — A 15 mA microfuse opens automatically when the input voltage exceeds 300% of its rating, and a current limiting circuit prevents damage to the amplifier if the output is accidentally short-circuited.
- General-purpose wide voltage input — Compatible with any signal source up to ±10 V in amplitude at an input impedance of 1 MΩ (30 pF), it connects directly to a function generator, a DAC output or any standard laboratory signal source with no impedance matching adapter.
- Applications across many industries — Widely used for piezo actuator drive, MEMS characterisation, OLED drive circuit evaluation and liquid crystal device test, it suits the production test environments of research institutes, R&D laboratories and component manufacturers.
Typical applications
- Piezo actuator precision positioning and vibration control — A researcher uses the F10AD to amplify the low voltage waveform from a function generator (±10 V) to ±100 V and drive a piezo actuator for nanometre positioning or active vibration suppression; the common-ground dual-channel design lets the engineer control the X and Y axes together, achieving accurate two-axis coordinated motion in a scanning probe microscope (SPM) or an optical bench isolation system.
- Electrostatic actuation and functional verification of MEMS devices — In a MEMS R&D laboratory, an engineer applies bipolar high voltage excitation to an electrostatic comb drive or a micromirror with the F10AD and observes key characteristics such as pull-in voltage and displacement linearity. The 1 MHz bandwidth and high 400 V/μs slew rate reproduce the waveform faithfully even on a broadband sweep, so distortion does not compromise measurement accuracy.
- Evaluating the electrical characteristics of liquid crystal and OLED devices — Display device manufacturers and research institutes use the F10AD to apply precise AC high voltage drive signals to a liquid crystal cell or OLED sample, assessing threshold voltage, the capacitance–voltage (C-V) curve and luminous efficiency. Ultra-linear amplification keeps the test signal free of harmonic distortion, so the measured data reflects the electrical behaviour of the device itself rather than non-linear error introduced by the amplifier.
