Overview
The F10A single-channel high voltage linear amplifier is built around a fast high voltage operational amplifier with a feedback network optimised for a ×10 voltage gain, holding ultra-linear amplification across the wide band from DC to 1 MHz. An input impedance of 1 MΩ (30 pF) accepts signal sources of many kinds, and a built-in 15 mA microfuse opens automatically when the input voltage exceeds 300% of its rating to protect the internal circuitry. The output current limit is set at 185 mA with about 30 W of continuous output power, the maximum capacitive load is 400 pF (including the capacitance of the connecting cable), and the slew rate is 400 V/μs — ample for dynamic tests calling for fast high voltage drive. The F10A runs from a 100 V, 110 V or 220 V (50/60 Hz) supply, and its compact enclosure (257 mm W × 102 mm H × 262 mm D) at about 4 kg suits long, steady operation on a laboratory bench.
Key features
- Fixed ×10 ultra-linear gain — A purpose-built feedback network sets the gain precisely at ×10 and holds ultra-linear amplification across the whole DC to 1 MHz band, so the output waveform reproduces the input signal faithfully.
- Bipolar ±100 V high voltage output — A bipolar ±100 V high voltage output suits driving piezo actuators and capacitive devices and any test application needing a large voltage swing.
- High 400 V/μs slew rate — An excellent 400 V/μs slew rate lets the amplifier track the transient behaviour of fast signals accurately, meeting the strict requirements of pulse waveforms and dynamic testing.
- Layered overload protection — A built-in 15 mA microfuse opens automatically when the input voltage exceeds 300% of its rating, and output current limiting prevents short-circuit damage, keeping both the instrument and the device under test safe.
- Low output impedance, <0.1 Ω — A very low output impedance lets the amplifier drive capacitive or resistive loads of every kind steadily, holding a good frequency response even over a long coaxial cable.
- The F series low-cost broadband platform — The F10A belongs to the Pendulum Instruments F series, with the dual-channel F10AD also available, giving laboratories that need several high voltage drives a flexible way to expand the system.
Typical applications
- Piezo actuator drive and nanopositioning control — In atomic force microscope (AFM) scan heads, precision optical alignment stages and active vibration isolation systems, a piezo actuator (PZT) needs a linear high voltage signal at the ±100 V level to use its full travel. The F10A amplifies the ±10 V low voltage output of a function generator or DAC by 10, giving broadband linear drive from DC to 1 MHz so that nanometre displacement commands are reproduced faithfully with no non-linear distortion.
- Characterising MEMS devices and electro-optic modulators — Microelectromechanical (MEMS) structures and electro-optic (EO) modulators need a bipolar sweep bias during characterisation, to observe the capacitance–voltage (C–V) curve or the half-wave voltage (Vπ). A researcher takes a low voltage swept waveform from a signal source and amplifies it with the F10A into the required high voltage range, covering the device's full dynamic operating region without changing equipment.
- Electrical study of OLED and liquid crystal materials — New OLED emissive materials and liquid crystal (LC) formulations need high voltage alternating fields during development for aging tests and brightness–voltage verification. The F10A's low output impedance (<0.1 Ω) drives a capacitive test cell steadily, and a researcher need only adjust the signal source to change waveform frequency and amplitude, cutting the equipment setup time that material evaluation demands.
